Put the United States first in stimulus plan

Any "Buy American" rules could prompt a trade clash that would jeopardize relations with Canada's biggest commercial partner. Now, Mr. Summers appeared lukewarm to the idea of a “Buy American” requirement in the stimulus package. By Carla Gottgens, Bloomberg News By David J. AZUZ: One way to avoid paying tariffs is to buy American, and that idea might be built into the economic stimulus plan. It was that reality check that led the US House to include the buy American provision in their version of the stimulus bill. Protectionist Obama: The paper is critical, in an editorial, of the "Buy American" clause in Barack Obama's stimulus package. While Lipinski's amendment eventually was rejected, the House did include a provision to buy American steel.
